Handicap: a disadvantage for a given individual
resulting from a disability that limits or prevents fulfillment of a role
considered normal for that individual.
Impairment: a functional limitation within an
individual caused by physical, mental or sensory impairment.
Types of

Impairment (OHI)
Disorder
resulting in limited strength, vitality or alertness with respect to the
educational environment. E.g. Asthma, sickle cell anemia, epilepsy, heart
conditions, diabetes
◦Orthopedic Impairment (OI)
Disease such as polio, clubfoot, bone
tuberculosis, cerebral palsy, spina bifida,
muscular dystrophy, amputations, fractures, or burns that adversely affect
educational performance.
